England 2England_Flag v Italian Flag1Tunisia

The teams filed out, the national anthems played and finally the starting whistle blew on England's World Cup campaign 2018. Unfortunately by this time I was at band practice, we shuffled our music, set our phones to silent and made our way tentatively through Sundays Band's in the Park programme.

Once home, catch up rolling I settled down for the game, to be honest for the first 20 minutes I thought I'd got the wrong match as England pounced on their foe, erm well like Lions?! A really strange feeling descended, it was the anticipation of an England goal! Still opening the beers, Harry Kane opened the scoring with a true Linaker like poacher's goal from the 6 yard box!

"back in the band room our phones buzzed right in the middle of land of hope and glory, a coincidence? I don't think so".

Pace dropped a little after the opening goal but chances still emerged, then against the run of play, with nothing left the offer Tunisia pulled a Johnny foreigners trick and 'bought' a penalty. Despite this Pickford flew between the sticks and clawed at the ball with intent, even in conceding it gave me far more faith than Hart flapping at the ball like a half fledged pigeon in previous campaigns.

At one one Tunisia set in for the draw defending deeper, and England replied piling on the attack. The opposition defence threw in a few judo moves for good measure, VAR developed a spectacular blind spot for England penalty appeals. The second half changes was about speed and punch, England continued to flood the box and eventually the dam burst, back in the band room our phones buzzed right in the middle of land of hope and glory, a coincidence? I don't think so. Kane's last minute winner sealed England's best start in a world cup for many a year.
